Best Areas to Stay in Prachuap Khiri Khan

Despite being fairly small (at least by American standards!), the town of Prachuap Khiri Khan has pretty distinct neighborhoods and areas. We’ve stayed in different parts, and being in an area that’s less suited for you can definitely impact your whole experience of the town! Read on to learn about various areas in Prachuap Khiri Khan so you can decide where to stay.

In General: Head East

We recommend not staying anywhere west of the train tracks. This western part of the city is more residential and industrial, meaning you’ll find fewer restaurants. It’s also further from the bay and the downtown area. When we’ve stayed in this western area, we found that just heading downtown for a meal or a stroll was an ordeal. Don’t forget it’s typically very hot and sunny here! At home in Northern California, I wouldn’t mind a 15-minute stroll to downtown… here in Prachuap Khiri Khan, I’m sweaty, sticky, overheated, and tired by the end of it.

If you have a particular reason to stay in this area, you can definitely make it work, but we wouldn’t recommend it if you have other options.

Near the Pier (Saran Withi Bridge)

If you want to be in the heart of the action, this is the area to stay! There are several guesthouses and hotels in this area. While we haven’t tried them personally, we recommend looking into Baan Por Pla Resort and Prachuap Grand Hotel for options in this area.

When you stay here, you’ll be within easy walking distance of the various events that happen on the main waterfront street. These include a night market every Friday and Saturday evening, as well as various other ceremonies and events. And for a small town, Prachuap Khiri Khan celebrates a lot; I think we’ve coincidentally seen some parade, ceremony, or other special occasion every single time we’ve visited.

Along the Waterfront

Prachuap Khiri Khan’s main (only) really touristy area is very small and located along the southern end of the waterfront stretch, a couple of blocks inland. We don’t really love this touristy area (except for the fact that most tourists don’t venture too far beyond it, which is great!), so we tend to steer clear. But if you want to hang out with other tourists and eat at English-speaking establishments, this is the best area to do so.

While we haven’t stayed in them personally, we’ve heard great things about Prachuap Beach Hotel and Milano Coffee & Guesthouse. These are a bit further north than the heart of the tourist area; head a little further south if you want to be right in it. But the whole area is very walkable!

Our Favorite
: Between the Bay and the Tidal Channel

As you walk north of downtown, along the waterfront, you’ll pass the Khao Chong Krajok hill. After that, the road curves around across a bridge, bringing you to a narrow stretch of land between the bay and the scenic tidal channel.

This is by far our favorite area to stay in Prachuap Khiri Khan. It’s far enough from downtown that it’s quiet, peaceful, and more local than touristy, but close enough that it’s an easy walk or bike ride. Plus, there are some great restaurants!

While there are several casual guesthouses that you’ll only find in person and not online, the one hotel here is our favorite in town! Golden Beach Hotel is comfortable, quiet, and staffed by incredibly friendly people; we highly recommend it. (Check out our full review at this link!)
